HMI MOURNS THE PASSING OF HANK BASSEN |
Saturday June 26, 2010 |
HMI would like to remember a wonderful long-time ministry friend from the hockey community who died this spring. Hank Bassen passed away on May 29 at the age of 76. Hank was a former professional goalie who played in the National Hockey League for the Chicago Black Hawks, Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins. As a youngster in junior hockey, Bassen was a premier player in the Western Hockey League for the Calgary Stampeders, Seattle Americans and Vancouver Canucks. For many years, Hank was a driving force and leader of HMI's Calgary youth hockey camp. HMI President, Don Liesemer Sr., was one of several people who gave a eulogy at Bassen's funeral and commented, "It is hard to say goodbye to a dear friend. While winning many awards, Hank's real trophies were his family members...wife Shirley, and children Shane, Brian, Bob, Sandra and Mark. Three cheers for Hank Bassen, a faithful witness to the living Christ." |
